Taking a test on screen (CBT)

The question palette, section timers, negative marking, confidence tags, keyboard shortcuts and submitting.

Before you start

The start page shows the number of questions, the time, the maximum marks and a table for each section: questions, marks for a right answer, the deduction for a wrong one, and the section time where the exam has one. Choose On screen (CBT) and press Start test.

Answering

  • Tap an option to choose it. It is saved the moment you tap; Save & next simply takes you to the next question.
  • Clear response removes your answer.
  • Mark for review & next flags the question so you can come back to it, then moves on. Use it again on that question to remove the flag.
  • On a phone, open the question palette with the ☰ button.

The question palette

What you seeWhat it means
Grey squareNot visited: you haven't opened it yet
Light red square, red borderNot answered: opened, but no answer
Green squareAnswered
Purple circleMarked for review, no answer
Purple circle with a green ringAnswered and marked for review: this answer is scored

The count for each state sits above the palette, and each section tab shows how many questions you have answered.

Sections and sectional timers

If the real exam has no separate section times, you can move between sections freely with the tabs at the top. Save & next on the last question of a section takes you into the next section.

If the real exam times each section (as banking exams do), the mock does the same:

  • The clock shows the time left in the current section.
  • The other section tabs stay locked.
  • When a section's time ends, it locks for good and the next section opens automatically. You can't go back to it.

The clock changes colour when 5 minutes are left.

Marking and negative marking

Each section uses the marks and negative marking of the exam's official pattern: the same numbers you saw on the start page. A blank question scores zero. Where an official rule is not confirmed yet, we don't invent a penalty, and the exam page labels it "Awaiting official confirmation".

Scoring happens on our server after you submit. Your device never receives the answer key during the test.

Confidence tags (optional)

After you choose an answer, three small buttons appear under the options: Sure, 50-50 and Guess. Tap one to record how confident you are; tap it again to remove it. Tags never change your marks. They power the "Sure vs 50-50 vs guess" part of your report, which shows whether guessing gains or loses you marks under this exam's negative marking.

Keyboard shortcuts

Shortcuts work only in on-screen mode, and not while you are typing in a box or a dialog is open. There is no shortcut for submitting, so you can't submit by accident.

Submitting

Press Submit test at the bottom of the palette. A summary shows how many questions are answered, not answered, marked for review and not visited. Press Yes, submit to finish, or Keep working to go back. You can't change answers after submitting.

When time runs out, the test submits itself with the answers you have given, and your report opens straight away.

Questions

Is an "answered and marked" question counted?

Yes. If a question has an answer, it is scored whether or not it is marked for review. A question that is only marked, with no answer, scores zero.

Can I pause a test?

There is no pause button, just as in the real exam. But for normal mocks the clock only runs while the test is open, so if you have to stop, you can resume later with your time preserved. Live mocks are the exception. See Autosave, resume and Lite mode.

Should I tag every answer with Sure, 50-50 or Guess?

No, tags are optional. Even tagging only your doubtful answers as 50-50 or Guess is enough to see whether your guesses are paying off.
