What goes into the notebook
When you are logged in, every test you submit feeds your Mistake Notebook automatically:
- every question you answered wrong;
- every lucky guess: a right answer you tagged "Guess". You got the marks, but you don't know it yet.
Find it in the Mistake Notebook tab of your exam workspace. It shows what is due today, what is still open and how many you have resolved, and for each item its topic, the reason, the next review date and its step (1 to 5).
Tag why it went wrong
In your report, each wrong answer has five reason buttons: Concept gap, Silly mistake, Misread, Time pressure and Guessed. Tagging takes two seconds and pays off: the reason is saved in your notebook, and a pattern tells you what to change. Lots of "Misread", for instance, calls for a slower first reading, not more theory.
The 1-3-7-14-30 schedule
Each mistake comes back for review on a spaced schedule:
- 1 day after the mistake;
- if you get it right, 3 days later;
- then 7 days later;
- then 14 days later;
- then 30 days later.
Get it wrong at any step and it goes back to the 1-day step. Get it right at the 30-day review (five right answers in a row) and the mistake is resolved and leaves your open list. Reviewing just as you are about to forget is what makes learning stick.
Mistake Retest: sibling questions
When mistakes are due, start a Mistake Retest from your workspace Home or the Mistake Notebook tab. It takes up to 15 due items, the longest-waiting first. For each one we pick a sibling question: same topic, the same concept wherever possible, a similar difficulty, and a question you haven't already got right. That checks whether you have learned the idea, not just remembered one answer. If no sibling exists yet, the original question comes back.
Retests have no negative marking and allow about 75 seconds per question. Your result moves each original mistake along the schedule.
The notebook fills up for every logged-in student. Mistake Retests are part of the Exam Pass.
